Glencoe Public Safety Unique Donor Experiences
Range Observation and Lunch
Following lunch and conversation, donors will have a safety briefing and have an opportunity to visit the Glencoe public safety firearms range. There they will observe a demonstration of firearms principles, shield usage, rifle usage, and mastery of skills by Public Safety Officer David Ciecko. Officer Ciecko is a firearms instructor and member of the United States Practical Shooting Association: with the USPSA, he earned the coveted rank of Grand Master, of which there are less than 200 active in the world. Donors will come away from the experience having a strong understanding of those factors police officers can encounter and how important training is.
Dive Day and Lunch
Following a field lunch and conversation, donors will have an opportunity to attend to safety breathing with members of the Glencoe Public Safety Department Dive Team. These personnel receive specialized training for underwater navigation and rescue operations in Lake Michigan and other bodies of water. Hosted by Lieutenant Matthew Esposito, those donors will be able to observe waterborne operations and evidence recovery in the Skokie Lagoon in A controlled training environment. Donors will come away from the experience understanding how Glencoe personnel meet unique needs in waterborne operations while also serving as part of the MABAS mutual aid team.
Police Shift Ride Along and Training Day
Donors will attend a safety briefing and be outfitted with required equipment to include body armor. Those donors will then participate in a police shift ride along, learning the basics of law enforcement operations and observing personnel in the field. Donors will take no active role, observe from a safe distance, and will have ample opportunity for conversation while patrolling the streets of the village of Glencoe. During the ride along, participants will have an opportunity to experience a limited training environment. Donors will come away with from the experience with a strong understanding of what goes through the minds of officers during their shift while having an appreciation of their roles in the community.
Fire Shift Ride Along and Training Day
Donors will attend a safety briefing and be outfitted with required equipment. Those donors will then participate in a fire shift ride along, learning the basics of fire science operations and observing personnel in the field. Donors will take no active role, observe from a safe distance, but will have ample opportunity for conversation while responding to calls in the village of Glencoe and surrounding municipalities. During the ride along, participants will have an opportunity to experience a limited training environment. This experience will include an option of remaining on shift for 24 hours. Donors will come away with from the experience with a strong understanding of what goes through the minds of officers during their shift while having an appreciation of their roles in the community.
Detective Training Day
Donors will have an opportunity to meet Glencoe public safety detectives and learn the intricacies of their profession. Following lunch, detectives will provide a case overview of a recent victory for the agency-they will discuss best practices, how technology impacts a case, and provide an opportunity for the donor to look behind the curtain. Donors will come away with a unique understanding of how many elements go into the most basic of investigations to ensure a conviction.
Fire Apparatus Ride to School
Donors will have an opportunity to arrange for a personalized ride to school for a minor, hosted by Glencoe Public Safety Fire shift personnel. The fire apparatus will arrive at the Glencoe resident's home and provide for a ride to the minor’s school. Alternatively, the donor can arrange for a school pickup and station tour, followed by a ride home. The donor will come away from the unique experience by having ridden in a fire suppression vehicle combined with personalized interaction with Glencoe Public Safety Officers.
Also, please feel free to reach out to the Public Safety Department to be connected to the current Glencoe Public Safety Foundation Board if you would like to volunteer your time and talents.
