Mission and Projects

GPSF collaborates closely with the GPS Chief and Team to identify important, un-budgeted, or discretionary needs that promise to improve crime prevention, optimize emergency medical service responses, enhance professional development, and encourage citizen participation to enrich public health and safety.
Funded Projects
In 2024, GPSF was able to purchase 45 individual first aid kits for all Public Safety staff, 22 Quick Litters allowing for movement of injured people in emergencies, and training supplies. These individual first aid kits contain all the necessary items needed to provide immediate lifesaving measures in the field like chest seals, tourniquets, nasal airway tubing, traumatic bleeding dressings, clothing shears, hemostatic dressings, and gloves. Designed for self-aid or buddy-aid, these kits can also be rapidly detached from the carrier and dropped with victims. Quick Litters are designed as rapidly deployable stretchers capable of moving injured parties to casualty collection points in emergencies. Both systems were provided to Glencoe Public Safety by the GPSF Board at a roll call training event on February 10th, 2025.

Current Projects
GPSF is currently raising funds for the following projects. If you would like your donation to be allocated towards a specific project, please indicate in the memo section of your check or in the message section of the online donation form.
Active Threat Kits: 15 squad car active threat kits that contain the following: ‘Go bags’ with a small trauma kit capable of providing limited support of mass-casualties, surplus magazines and ammunition, tie-off kits (kits that allow for doors to be secured), protective gear (gloves, eye protection), portable fire suppression systems, and stop the bleed kits that contain enough supplies for approximately 10 victims to include tourniquets, quick-clot, and bandages

Additional FLOCK License Plate Recognition camera support: Additional cameras to close any gaps in Glencoe’s defense by use of FLOCK cameras. This would also include cameras near the downtown area and at least two additional routes into the Village. It should be noted that 100% of all investigations now utilize FLOCK systems in the clearance and arrest of offenders. These license plate reading cameras have also been instrumental in identifying stolen license plates entering Glencoe and proactively thwarting crime. This would be a multi-year support request.

Leadership training opportunities: Northwestern School of Staff & Command: Northwestern University Center for Public Safety continuing education courses for law enforcement professionals
Leadership training opportunities: FBI-LEEDA: FBI-LEEDA Command Leadership Institute is a dynamic, intensive and challenging program specifically and uniquely designed to prepare law enforcement leaders for command level positions.
Increased refresh rate for body armor replacement: Based on budget, carriers and soft body armor are being replaced over several years. This would shorten that time span.

Rifle-rated plates: GPS has adopted a ballistic system that incorporates both traditional soft body armor (that defeats most pistol rounds) and incorporating a carrier that can hold hard ceramic ballistic plates (defends against rifle rounds). This system is common in all surrounding municipalities. Only the initial soft body armor and carriers are being purchased at this time, with the intent to purchase the plates when budgeted.

Startup and supplement yearly award ceremony: GPS previously possessed a minimal framework for Department-led appreciation of the member’s efforts through the year. With a recently formed Awards Committee, a policy has been formulated to provide structure for recognition of quality work performed on behalf of the Village. With a monthly and yearly ceremony schedule outlined, GPD would like to be able to purchase ribbon bars, medals, and other means of recognition for its members in surplus to have on hand. This would also potentially support the yearly recognition dinner, attended by GPS family members.

Squad car active threat kits: Ballistic Shields w/lights: bullet-resistant shields carried by first responders

Indigent member support: In the event a member of GPS becomes indigent due to unforeseen medical expenses or other similar unforeseen tragedy-related costs, a limited safety net could be provided by the Foundation.
Squad car active threat kits- Entry Tools: Squad car ‘Breacher Pack’ kits that include small ram, bolt cutters, Halligan bar/pry bar, and hammer all carried on a backpack frame for rapid deployment.
